His Players Drama grew out of the desperation of my sons to do a more manly
show and their not wanting to do anymore “American Girl” plays. They had
been performing in plays the last two years in “The Homeschool Drama Club”
started by Diana Rodriquez a very talented actor and director; however
she was also a girl. So…because my boys wanted to do a show with less feelings
and more action; ha ha, I decided to do a play for them and our first show
was “Men in Tights.” Which I had to adapt to the stage from the screen
play (no small feat, and something I have had to repeat for almost every
show; either because there was no script available or because most shows
call for about a maximum of fifteen to twenty actors and I have had to
adapt the stories to accommodate up to sixty actors) and soon after “His
Players” was born. This is “His Players Drama” tenth year in production
and we are on our twelfth show. Over the years I have been blessed
to work with so many talented kids and wonderful families; it has truly
been amazing what the Lord has done in so many lives, most especially mine,
because of this drama group. We have done a wide array of shows in addition
to “Men In Tights”, including Shakespeare's “Much Ado about Nothing” ,
Dickens “Scrooge” and “Nicolas Nickleby”, Broadway musicals; “Annie”, “Fiddler
On the Roof”, “Bye Bye Birdie”, “The Grinch” and “Journey to Oz.” (in all
of our shows we strive to perform and present at a level far beyond just
a kids show and more like a Broadway production) I have learned so
much and experienced such joy at watching otherwise shy kids suddenly begin
to bloom before my eyes once they get on the stage; it is amazing. This
year doing “The Journey to Oz” was so much fun and I am really looking
forward to staging “the next great play that HIS PLAYERS will do. I give
all the glory to God for the success of “His Players Drama Theater” and
to all the students and parents who have helped through the years to make
my job easier and such a true pleasure. Thank you all, you’ve helped to
make all my visions and dreams come true. Thank you for you patience and
for having grace for me when I’ve missed something.
Sincerely,
Lorri Murphy |
